        Cadiz

The city of Cádiz is one of the best destinations for a few days of sightseeing. Its recreational attractions include excellent night-life, fascinating culture and exquisite local gastronomy, all of which can be enjoyed within a fantastic atmosphere.

Take a stroll along its vibrant winding streets, which burst to life with every turn you take, and soak up the true essence of the city. Here are some recommendations of things to visit during your holiday in Europe’s oldest city.

        Old town

The city of Cádiz, founded in 1100 B.C. by the Phoenicians, was one of the most important commercial colonies of the Iberian Peninsula. This led to the construction of the city's most important monuments such as its cathedral, which masterfully combines baroque and neoclassical styles. This stunning cathedral is just a 10-minute walk from our establishment.

        Gastronomy

Cádiz’s gastronomic quality is undisputed. This includes its delicious fish (primarily enjoyed in the format of pescaíto frito (fried fish), marinated dogfish and mackerel with piriñaca salad. You will also find exquisite wines, such as sherry. Simply everything is delicious!

You can try the local gastronomy by sampling tapas at the various establishments along Calle Zorrilla or in the La Viña neighbourhood, where you will be immersed in the unique ‘gaditano’ atmosphere and experience it in its purest form.

        Watchtowers

Cádiz's watchtowers are one of its defining features, which once served as recreational spaces that were used to observe the commercial traffic of fleets that docked in the city's port. These constructions have dominated the city’s skyline for 300 years and are a symbol of Cádiz's link with life and commerce deriving from the sea.

From the top of the watchtowers, flags were raised to communicate with ships that were entering and leaving the port. In the 18th century, watchtowers became a symbol of prestige for the city’s merchants, who sought to make their watchtower more striking and spectacular than those of their competitors.

        Beaches

No visit to Cádiz is complete without paying a visit to one of its spectacular sandy beaches and taking a dip in its crystal-clear waters. One such example is La Caleta, located in the heart of the old town. Others include Playa de Santa María del Mar, Playa de la Cortadura and Playa de la Victoria, which are slightly further away but just as charming.

If you take a stroll along these beaches at the right time, you will enjoy some astonishing sunsets. These represent a great opportunity to take some beautiful photos, which you can show your loved ones upon your return home.
